We have a multitude of activities this month! Hopefully there is something that appeals to everyone. Please let us know if there is something you would like to see on the calendar. We’d like to see YOU!

How your knowledge of random facts stacks up to your fellow Jaycees?  Come to our membership meeting on April 12th to find out! We will be playing a trivia game.   JC Zegarra is in our membership spotlight this month. These are always fun so come learn interesting facts about your fellow Jaycee!

Our 2nd membership meeting of the month, April 26th, we will have a speaker from SEEDS “a non-profit community garden whose goal is to teach people to care for the earth, themselves, and each other.” A portion of the proceeds from the Doughman will go to SEEDS. We will have the opportunity to volunteer for the Doughman in May.  If you don’t know what Doughman is… then you’ll just have to come to the meeting to find out!

We are continuing our monthly membership socials on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, unless otherwise noted. This month’s membership social will be held on Tuesday, April 19th at 6:00pm at The Green Room, 1108 Broad Street. Come out to socialize, play pool, and shuffle board at this historic pool hall!

Join us for book club and African food at 6:30pm on April 28th at Palace International, 1104 Broad Street. We will be discussing Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace… One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.  Come out even if you haven’t read the book to socialize and have dinner.

We have several volunteer opportunities this month. The first will be at 5:30pm on Saturday, April 16th at Ronald McDonald House. We will be providing dinner to the residents.  Help serve and share a meal with some inspiring people.

Our second volunteer opportunity of the month is for children and animals. We will be volunteering at the NC Spirit Festival at Casbah, 1007 West Main Street, on April 23rd starting at 6:30pm. Proceeds from this first annual festival will go to The Caring House, Ronald McDonald House, and The Coalition to Unchain Dogs. For more information about this festival go to: http://www.ncspiritfestival.com/

Last but not least….We are selling Ducks for the Sunrise Rotary’s Rubber Duck Race. This is a great way for us to raise funds for the Jaycees.  There are 20 prizes for your duck to have a chance of winning.  All sales must be made by the last day of May. The race will occur on June 4th at the Mill House at West Point on the Eno River at 11:00 am.  For more information see our website: http://durhamjaycees.org/projects/duckrace2011.html

Don’t forget to invite friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc to visit a meeting or event. All are welcome!  Service to humanity is the best WORK OF LIFE!
